Whooper Swans, in the photos above and taken in late November, have left Siberia to winter in China. A favourite destination for some of the tens of thousands of these huge birds is a lake in Rongcheng, in China's Shandong Province, on the coast of the East China Sea, opposite the Koreas. Winter vagrants of the species (Cygnus cygnus) sometimes reach the Aleutian Islands and the western coast of North America, as far south as Northern California.
