The two Mute Swans at Carrying Place Golf & Country Club on Weston Road, north of the Lloydtown-Aurora Sideroad, show their mettle while foraging in very cold water at the large pond on a chilly Friday morning.

Frosty Blue Canvas...

Yesterday my 'BarrytheBirder' blog featured Vancouver Island bird photos by my acquaintance Dave Kemp.   Dave also sent along the photo above which I decided to show by itself today.  Dave was making the point that frost had appeared on the west coast on Thanksgiving Day.   I have chosen to name Dave's excellent frost photo "Blue Canvas".

Young Bald Eagles

Cormorants won't share perches with others...

Double-crested Cormorants chase others away

Double-crested Cormorants that have soaked their feathers while swimming underwater, hunting for food, like to take their time while drying their feathers after fishing.   This means occupying a perch during the feather-drying process.   As seen in these photos at a local pond, it means shoo-ing away any other cormorants looking for a perch.   Otherwise, cormorants are normally quite communal.
