EUROPEAN SHAG
Phalacrocorax aristotelis
Apart from having a 2-part Latin scientific name with 24 letters in it, this shag's claim to fame may very well be those piercing green eyes.   This one was photographed on the Farne Islands in Northumberland, England.   The islands are home to 23 different species of birds such as shags, guillemots, puffins, kittiwakes and terns.
