RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD (male)
Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 2.29 p.m.
Our hummers usually show up between May 3rd and May 10th each year, here in southern Ontario, just north of Toronto, in King Township. As an example of their timing over the last six years, they arrived once on May 3, (2012), twice on May 6 (2014 and 2015), and three times on May 10 (2010, 2011 and 2013). In truth, they can never arrive too early for me. Even though summer doesn't arrive officially until June 21, for me summer begins on the day the first 'ruby-throat' shows up. So be it.
