     Golden-crowned Kinglet
Kinglets are among the smallest of songbirds.   The Ruby-crowned Kinglet and the Golden-crowned Kinglet are tiny, short-tailed, with wing-flicking action.   The Red-crowned has a bold white eye-ring.   Wings normally show a strong white wing-bar, with a black bar just behind it.   The males' ruby crown patch is raised only when excited.   The Golden-crowned has stripes on its face and no eye-ring.   The centre of its crown is orange on the male and yellow on the female.
The National Geographic Field Guide describes Kinglets as small birds that often hover to feed.   It goes on to say Kinglets regularly joined mixed--species feeding flocks with chickadees and warblers in the nonbreeding season.
Both of these kinglet species arwe commonly found in my area of south-central Ontario in Canada.
