Tree Swallow (Tachycineta bicolor)

Very simply coloured but quite distinctive in appearance, with dark, glossy blue above and white below.   Tree Swallows are common in any wooded area near water, especially where dead or decaying trees are abundant, providing nesting opportunities.      They will also nest in nest boxes,, fence posts and barn eaves.
They generally migrate north early in the spring and linger farther north in fall than other swallows.   According to the National Geographic Society's Birds of North America, Tree Swallow flocks may number in the thousands during migration.
