Rose-breasted Grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus)

The (Starling-sized) Rose-breasted Grosbeak is found across southern Canada and the north-east United States.   It is a rare migrant in the west.   It is fairly common in summer in moist leafy woods of the east, also in open fields with tall shrubs, and also open and overgrown orchards.   They move rather deliberately amongst tree foliage and sometimes come to ground or bird feeder.
The easily spotted- adult males have a rosy triangle on chest, black head, and big white spots in wings. Females and young are dark brown above, striped below.
According to birder Kenn Kaufman, the song of this Grosbeak is rich whistled phrases, with robin-like quality but often faster, more varied.
This Grosbeak winters from Mexico to South America, and occasionally in the U.S. southwest.
