Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus)
Natiornal bird of Ireland
The national bird of the Republic of Ireland is the Northern Lapwing, also known by its Irish name Pilibin. It was officially declared the national bird by a committee of the Irish Wildlife Conservancy in 1990. It us a medium-sized bird with a distinctive long crest-like feather on its head and iridescent green and purple plumage on its back.
