This thrush is shaped much like a chunky Robin, but usually acts a bit shier. It is common in western Canada, the northwest United States plus Alaska. It breeds in western coniferous forests and is a rare visitor as far east as Atlantic Canada.
It is rather more colourful than the American Robin, especially the male of the species, which has a grayish blue nape and back, orange eyebrow and underparts orange with a black breast band and an unmarked orange throat.
This thrush does not typically associate with American Robins.
