Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator)

A huge swan that weighs more than any other bird in Canada and the U.S.A.   It was formerly endangered but is now doing well in the northwest and is being introduced into areas farther east (including northern plains and great Lakes region).    

It is larger than all other swan breeds with a massive all-black bill.   Its voice is one of rich, bugling notes.

Trumpeter Swans tend to hold their necks kinked back at the base.
