Champion long-distance migrant of the world???
The Arctic Tern nests in the Canadian Arctic and northern territories, and winters in Antarctica, travelling an annual distance of more than 40,000 kilometres!
They are common to fairly common on the breeding grounds in the far north, but are steadily declining on the southern end of their breeding range along the Atlantic Coast.
They are distinguishable from similar terns by their short red bills, short legs and necks.
