Today is August 28th and fall migration has already begun for many bird species, including the Swainson's Hawk, seen here in Aurora, Ontario, pictured above and below. Swainson's Hawks casually migrate south to Florida, but winter chiefly in South America, notably Argentina.
They undertake a massive 12,000-mile (19,000 km.) round trip migration from western, central and eastern North America (including here in Ontario) to the pampas of Argentina.
They travel in large flocks, called kettles, leaving the breeding grounds in late August or September and returning to North America by mid-march to April.
