Pictured at top is a Blue Jay taken by me in eastern Canada and beneath it is a picture of a Steller's Jay taken by Dave Kemp in western Canada. Dave is an avid bird photographer in British Columbia on Canada's west coast and has been sharing many of his bird photos with me for several years. These two jays meet and overlap somewhat in the eastern Rocky Mountains. In the new and seventh edition of National Geographic's Field Guide to the Birds of North America, authors Jon Dun and Jonathon Alderfer state that where the ranges of these two birds overlap in the eastern Rockies, the Steller's Jay and the Blue Jay may hybridize. Now there's a hybrid I would very much like to see.
