The sighting of a Varied Thrush (Swamp Robins) is the first sign that winter is on the way out. Usually it's the 1st week in March we'll hear that tinny whistle.
You're right Aptil ,Sibleys shows them to definitely reside here through out BC., but also indicates that rare occurrences are sighted across Canada. Similar to the Blue Jay that's common to most of Canada , but a rare sighting in BC.

Out of curiosity this bird does not appear to be an Ontario bird. I looked up the map on the varied thrush and it shows to be a west coast bird.
