My backyard has several Ruby-throated Hummingbirds roaring about. The fact that I have several nectar feeders on the go has something to do with it. By mid-August all hell is breaking loose as they all roar about defending the feeders which they think are their personal feeders. This of course includes all available feeders by each and every hummer. How they ever manage to double their body weight in order to get across the Caribbean Sea during the upcoming fall migration is amazing to me when one sees how much energy they are expending in protecting a food supply that is under constant assault.
