Green Heron (Butorides striatus)

A crow-sized dark heron with bright orange or yellowish legs, its head and neck are chestnut.  Its head and neck are chestnut and its crown is black with a small crest.   Its back and wings are dark green-grey.   Its voice is an explosive, rasping SKYOW !   It also croaks, cackles and clucks.   It is found around the southern Great Lakes and the eastern United States.
