The Ruppell's Gryphon Vulture is the highest flying bird in the world.   It is found in the Sahel region of central Africa.   It is critically endangered with a declining population of less than 30,000, due mainly to habitat destruction and poisoning by elephant poachers.   It has been recorded flying at an altitude of just over 37,000 feet (11,300 metres).   It goes without saying they have a wide field of vision when on the lookout for food.
